Moving SSH keys

The ability to move keysets allows you to have control over which users can perform certain actions on a keyset, as well as apply certain policy settings to keysets.

To move a single keyset from the keyset details page

  1. In SSH Protect, navigate to the specific keyset you want to move, and open the keyset details page.
  2. Click Move.
  3. Search for the target folder and click it.
  4. Click OK.

To move keysets in bulk on the SSH key inventory

  1. In SSH Protect, open the SSH Keyset Inventory.
  2. [Optional] Use the filters to find the specific keysets you want to move.
  3. [Optional] Verify that you have Write permissions to all the keysets you want to move.

When you do a bulk move operation, any keysets that you don't have Write permission to will NOT be moved, but this won't stop the rest of the keysets from moving to the new folder.

In addition, if the private key is encrypted and the passphrase is not known, the key cannot be moved.

  4. Use the check boxes to select one or more keysets you want to move.
  5. Click Move Keysets.
  6. Search for the target folder and click it.
  7. Click Ok.

A confirmation modal tells you if the move was successful. If you did not have permissions to move all of the keysets a warning message tells you that some keysets were not moved. In this case, all keysets that could be were moved. Any keysets for which you didn't have Write permissions will be left in their original location.

IMPORTANT  Moving multiple keysets to a different folder can take a significant amount of time. If you move five or fewer keysets at a time, the keysets are moved while you wait, and you see a confirmation modal in the UI when the move is complete. If you move more than six keysets, the move is done as a scheduled job, and will be completed in the background, allowing you to continue working in SSH Protect while the keysets are being moved.
