Preparing your environment for the Venafi Platform

This section shows you how to prepare the Windows servers and meet the requirements for a successful installation of Venafi Trust Protection Platform. This is a great place to start before you begin installing software.

TIP You can save valuable time in assessing and installing system prerequisites by running the Prereq Check Script and the Base Configuration Utility available at https://download.venafi.com/. After signing in, expand PS Utilities and download the following:

Prereq Check ScriptA PowerShell script that rapidly verifies whether or not all Venafi Platform prerequisites are installed already and reports which ones are not. You can even use the optional Install parameter to automatically install some missing items and remove the IIS default web site, something typically done manually following installation of the Venafi Platform.
Base Configuration UtilityDownload and run this utility to set most of the common post-install checklist requirements automatically, including the creation of best-practice policy tree folders, workflows, notifications, and discovery placement rules.

Carefully review the system requirements and make a note of the requirements that are applicable to your planned deployment and environment. See Reviewing system requirements before installation.
Determine the number of Venafi servers you will deploy and the purpose of each server. See Determining the number of Windows servers needed
Deploy and configure the Windows servers.
Ensure Network connectivity requirements are met including routing, firewall, and port access that are applicable to your planned deployment and environment.
