Email templates
Venafi Platform's SMTP channels are designed to send multi-part email messages, which include both HTML-formatted and plain-text content, to designated recipients.
The log server watches for events that match notification rules. When an event matches a notification rule, the notification rule passes log information to a channel; in the case of email messages, it is an SMTP channel. The SMTP channel applies an email template, resolves the macros, inserts the log information, and sends the email to the desired recipient.
Email Templates in VCC
In Venafi Configuration Console (VCC), you'll find email templates that come with common formatting elements like logos, CSS styles, and message footers. These templates feature placeholders where the SMTP channel fills in the actual log content.
The beauty of these templates is that they centralize common elements. If you need to change a logo or tweak a style, you just update the template, and all SMTP channels using that template will automatically reflect the change.
The Manage Templates action is available in the Channels node and all its descendant nodes.
Customization and Upgrades
You're not limited to a single template; you can have multiple to suit your organization's diverse needs. If you decide to modify a factory template or built-in channel, those changes will stick around even after a server upgrade. And if you ever want to revert to the original settings, you can do so at any time.
Flexibility in Configuration
Feel free to edit built-in items directly or to copy existing templates and SMTP channels for quick modifications. You also have the option to create templates and SMTP channels from scratch, giving you maximum flexibility in how you manage your SMTP log delivery.
