Configuring the log server
The log server represents the service that manages all logging and notification functions for a particular server. The log server is automatically created when you install Trust Protection Platform on a server and can be seen in Venafi Configuration Console (VCC) under Tools > Logging > Servers. Each server in the cluster has a separate server entry.
IMPORTANT Whenever you make configuration changes to the default log channel, the Logging service requires a restart. All other channel changes will refresh after configuration changes without requiring a restart of the Logging service.

-
In Venafi Configuration Console (VCC), open the Tools > Logging > Servers node.
-
From the list of log servers, click the specific server you want to configure.
-
Click Properties in the Actions panel.
-
Make the configuration changes.
Refer to the table below for the options.
-
Click OK or Apply.

Default Channel |
The Venafi log server records all events to a log table in the Trust Protection Platform database. If you want to see log events onscreen, you must use a database channel as your default log channel.2 IMPORTANT You must ensure the database server that stores the channel data does not run out of disk space. If the server runs out of disk space, the log server cannot operate. The space you need for your log store depends on a number of factors that include, but are not limited to, how many events per second you are storing and how long you want to keep the data. Trust Protection Platform generates about 10 events per certificate renewal. Daily events include validation checks and certificate monitoring. WARNING! If you are using your Venafi server as your logging server, if your server runs out of disk space, the entire set of Venafi services on that server will stop working. |

You can see the server's details in the bottom panel including the channels and notification rules that this log server processes.
