Locking policy attributes

Policy attributes can be locked to enforce a specific setting for all objects lower in the tree. The lock icon has three states, as described in the table below.

Description

This lock icon indicates that the policy setting has been locked somewhere higher in the folder structure. You cannot override this setting, and you cannot unlock it at this location in the folder structure. Go further up in the folder chain to locate where this policy setting is locked.

This lock icon indicates that the policy setting has been locked at this point in the folder structure. Since the policy is being dictated at this level, you can modify the attribute to enforce that on the policies further down the folder structure. You can also click this icon to unlock the attribute so this attribute can be edited further down the folder structure.

This unlock icon indicates that the policy setting has not been locked at this point (or at any point higher) in the folder structure. If you enter a value here it will be the default value for items added to this folder, or further down this folder structure, but it will be editable. If this attribute does not have a value, then you cannot lock it.
