About approval duration
If you choose to schedule an approval for a workflow approval request, you can specify a window of time during which the approval can take place. This is called the Approval Duration.
To learn more about scheduling an approval, see Managing approval requests in the Policy Tree.

- When you set the Date/Time for approval, the Trust Protection Platform processes all scheduled approvals at that time. If for some reason the approval process cannot be completed at the scheduled time, e.g., the Venafi Server or Venafi Database is down, then Trust Protection Platform will run approvals as soon as the Venafi Server or Venafi Database is running again.
- When you select Approval Duration, you specify a window of time during which approvals can take place after the process is started. Approval Duration allows you to control when the approval process will run. If you don't set a duration (Policy Tree only), then, if the initial approval time is missed, the approval process will begin as soon as the server or network is running again. If you set a duration and the window is missed, you must reschedule approvals.
EXAMPLE Suppose approvals are scheduled for 1:00 a.m. on November 7, 2024. However, the Venafi Database goes down at 12:45 a.m. that day due to an unscheduled maintenance event. If Venafi Platform comes back up before 3 a.m. (inside the 2 hour window) then the approval process begins. If Venafi Platform comes up after 3 a.m. (outside the 2 hour window), then you must reschedule approvals.
Approval Duration allows you to specify a window of time during which approvals can take place if the initial approval time is missed.

The time zone displayed is the OS clock time and is localized.
EXAMPLE Suppose the administrator viewing Approvals is in Denver, Colorado. The Date/Time is displayed as Mountain Daylight Time , 11/07/2024, and 1:00:00 AM.
When another administrator in New York views Approvals, the time zone changes to Eastern Daylight Time. The Date/Time is displayed as Eastern Daylight Time, 11/07/2024, and 3:00:00 AM.
CAUTION Scheduling approvals without specifying an Approval Duration. If for some reason the approval process cannot be completed at the scheduled time, e.g., Venafi Server or Venafi Database is down, then Trust Protection Platform will run approvals as soon as the Venafi Server or Venafi database is running again. This could interfere with other network processes.

NOTE In Aperture, Approval Duration is a required field.
